Five warning signs that you need to end your BA contracting career

You know when your BA contracting career is no longer working for you. You know because your feelings and your behaviours tell you if you just stop to pay attention. Your emotions are like the instrument panel in a car. They tell you when you are about to run out of fuel or the engine will seize up because you have been ignoring the flashing warning light.

The fact that you’re reading this either means you’re very curious or you already feel that it isn’t working for you.

So there’s the first sign. You have a nagging feeling that BA contracting isn’t right for you any more. You could call it a gut feeling. The strongest signal is that the feeling hasn’t gone away. It has been there for some time.

Another sign is when you feel jaded and cynical. You have seen the same mistakes and crazy, ill-conceived projects before. It is difficult to be open-minded and positive and not fall into cynical thoughts very quickly when you suspect that this project doesn’t make much sense. For the customer or for the company. But noone is questionning it so it falls to you. You may well be right but it’s the constant feeling of cynicism that is the important sign for your wellbeing.
